At Hotel Babesa, sustainability is not a policy document on a shelf but it is a daily practice that is woven into the way we build, operate and host.
Bhutan’s commitment to remaining carbon neutral is one we take personally. As a boutique property in the heart of Thimphu, we believe luxury and responsibility are not in conflict but they are inseparable. Every decision we make are from the energy we consume to the cup in your room reflects that belief of ours.
Clean Energy not Diesel
Our rooftop is fitted with solar panels that power the hotel’s operations by replacing the diesel generator that most properties in this region still depend on. Every kilowatt we generate on-site reduces our carbon footprint and our dependence on fossil fuels. Clean energy is not an upgrade here but it is the standard.
Lights that Think
Our LED lighting is paired with motion sensors throughout the hotel and our corridors, stairwells and common areas illuminate only when needed. It is a small intervention with a meaningful cumulative impact across every day of the year. Less energy is used but the quality of light.
A Plastic Free Property
Not in our guest rooms. Not on our dining tables. Not in our kitchens. Hotel Babesa is a single-use plastic-free property. Guest rooms are equipped with refillable glass bottles and ceramic cups. Our commitment does not stop at the visible — we have eliminated plastic across our back-of-house operations too.
Pure Water on Demand
We have installed water filtration system for clean and safe drinking water without the environmental cost of commercially bottled water. Our guests and employees will drink clean and safe water without impacting the environment.
Waste with a Destination
We operate a structured waste segregation system so that the dry, wet, breakage and hazardous waste are handled separately and responsibly. Food waste from our kitchen is composted wherever possible, reducing what leaves our property for landfill. Every member of our team is trained on waste protocols as part of their induction.
Green Spaces and Nature Ventilation
Hotel Babesa has been designed with natural light and ventilation in mind, reducing our reliance on air conditioning and artificial lighting during daylight hours. With our big windows bringing in the natural light, the use of electricity for lighting during the day is minimal in rooms and most of guest areas.
A Living Commitment
Sustainability at Hotel Babesa is reviewed quarterly. We track our energy consumption, waste output and water usage. We are not a perfect property, but we are committed to further adapt and implement more creative and impactful sustainable practices at all times to com.
